, home to Oralia, an Egyptian style Middle Eastern
dance artist, also known as a belly dancer.
You can contact
Oralia
for information about upcoming performances, classes, and cultural events
in New Hampshire/ Upper Valley.
Oralia is a long-time devotee of Middle Eastern dance. She has studied
classical Egyptian bellydance in depth with Kameal in Corvallis, Oregon,
modern Egyptian dance with
Astryd Farah
in Eugene, Oregon and
Amy Luna
in Berkeley, California. Oralia has travelled to Cairo and taken group, private, and semiprivate lessons
with the top teachers and performers of Egyptian bellydance including Mona el Saaid, Diana Tarkhan, Randa Kamel, Shalaby, Liza, Mahmoud Reda, and Tito.
Like the music of the Middle East, Oralia's dance is both energetic and
subtly nuanced, combining detailed technique with deep emotional content.
At times playful and flirtateous, firey or introspective, Oralia lets you
know how she is feeling through the dance.
Oralia's style combines elements of classical and modern Egyptian
bellydance with undertones of American cabaret. She conveys a thorough
understanding of the technical aspects of the dance that reveals the
mystery of the human form. The dancer is a bridge between the music and
the life we live.
Currently, Oralia performs at various events around the Upper Valley both as a soloist and with the Raq-ettes--the Upper Valleys premier belly dance troupe.
